Richard Hamilton at The Edison

Our boardroom at The Edison is now home to a limited edition screen-print of one of Richard Hamilton’s most striking works – ‘Putting on de Stijl’ (1979). The name is a word play referencing the pop song ‘putting on the style’, a Lonnie Donegan hit in 1957. This particular piece, as you might expect, echoes the work of artists of the de Stijl group, such as Piet Mondrian whose geometric designs and exclusive use of the primary colours defined his work. We feel extremely lucky to own such a wonderful piece of British Pop Art history, and are saddened that this great artist passed away within weeks of this going on the wall.
