Bankside Central

South Bank, London

  • Good and significant architecture; the kind of building that suggests radical alternatives to status quo, battery-worker buildings can be both startlingly cheeky and user-friendly."

Office & Commercial

Location: South Bank, SE1

Year: 2002

Type: Commercial

Size: 40,000 sq ft

Following the success of Bankside Lofts, Manhattan Loft Corporation returned to Southwark with its first commercial development, Bankside Central.

Architect Piers Gough brought his unique brand of architectural hedonism to this 40,000 sq ft site – featuring dramatic jutting corners, multi-coloured fenestration and a cantilevered top storey. The bold sculptural appearance of this former Victorian tea warehouse signals its proximity to the iconic Tate Modern.

This distinctive development of contemporary office space exemplifies the core values of MLC’s work, drawing in occupiers from the creative industries.
